Myanmar passport holders and the Sri Lanka ETA

A traveller using a Myanmar ordinary passport can submit an online Tourist ETA application for an eligible short holiday. The complete Tourist ETA application price through this website is $99. The passport entered on the form must be the document used with the airline and at the Sri Lankan border. A tourist application should describe sightseeing, a holiday or a genuine short visit; employment and study require their own immigration route.

Applicants often live outside Myanmar when they travel. That does not change the nationality selected for a Myanmar passport. Enter the actual residence separately, whether it is Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia or another country. A residence card explains where you live; the passport determines the nationality attached to the application.

Identity information for Myanmar documents

Use the Latin identity details printed in the passport. Do not translate a Burmese name, shorten it for an airline profile or copy an old booking without comparing the current document. A different order in a local record is not a reason to rearrange the passport fields. Check how the form labels surname and given names, then compare the result with the passport page.

Myanmar passports can be handled by a relative, agency or employer during trip planning, but the traveller should make the final identity check. Read the passport number character by character. Confirm nationality, birth date, issue date and expiry date. If renewal is planned, wait until the travel document is settled before using its number in an application.

Payment, receipt and approval are different records. If a card attempt is interrupted, check the account and existing reference before trying again. This is especially useful when an application is prepared from a different country than the card's issuing country.

Connections from Myanmar to Sri Lanka

Flights may connect through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or another Asian hub. The Sri Lanka ETA does not grant transit permission for that hub. Ask the airline if the itinerary stays airside, whether baggage is checked through and whether a separate ticket requires immigration clearance. A long connection outside the airport can create a separate document question.

After a schedule change, check the calendar date of arrival in Sri Lanka. An overnight flight can make the date different from the one originally typed. Keep the first accommodation address and onward plan consistent with the real journey.

Myanmar family visits and document control

Travellers visiting friends or relatives should keep the host's actual address and telephone number. A family invitation may explain the trip, but it does not replace the passport information required by the application. If someone in Myanmar pays for the trip while the traveller lives abroad, keep the payment reference and the traveller's own email access separate.

Parents preparing several applications should photograph or scan each passport separately. Do not name every file “passport” and then attach the first file that appears. A simple private folder using each traveller's initials can prevent a child's image from being attached to an adult application. Review all confirmations before the group leaves.

Keep the approval available in English or in the format supplied by the service. Translation by a friend is not a replacement for the issued document. If an airline asks a question about the trip, answer with the itinerary and approval rather than with an assumption based on an earlier journey.
