Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City itineraries may pass through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or another hub. The relevant date is the landing date in Sri Lanka. Overnight connections can cross midnight. Separate tickets can require luggage collection or a local transit permission that the Sri Lankan ETA cannot provide.

Reading a Vietnamese name from the passport

Start with the labelled passport identity rather than the order used in conversation. A family name, middle component and given name can be shown differently by airline systems. Compare the complete result after entering each field. The objective is for the application identity to point clearly to the passport, even when an airline removes spaces or accents.

If a renewed passport uses a different Latin spelling from an old visa or residence card, the current passport controls the Sri Lankan application. Keep older documents out of browser autofill and verify the machine-readable line before submission.

Regional flight choices from Vietnam

A traveller from Hanoi may connect differently from someone leaving Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang. Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore connections can have different terminal and baggage arrangements. Confirm whether the ticket is protected and whether checked baggage travels to Sri Lanka.

The ETA concerns Sri Lankan entry. It does not grant permission to leave an airport during a long connection. When a schedule change creates an overnight stop, check the transit country’s rules directly and update the arrival date in the travel plan.
