Sri Lanka ETA for a South African holiday

South African ordinary passport holders planning an eligible short holiday can submit a Sri Lanka Tourist ETA application online. The complete application price shown through this website is $99. Use the same passport from the online form through airline check-in and arrival. Tourism, visiting friends and a short leisure itinerary fit a different purpose from employment, study or commercial work.

South Africa issues different travel documents in different circumstances, so confirm that the document in your hand is the passport intended for international travel. A permanent residence card from another country does not replace South African nationality when the traveller enters Sri Lanka with a South African passport.

Names, passport renewals and airline records

Copy the surname and given names from the current passport. South African travellers may have multiple given names or a surname that changed after marriage. Do not rely on an old airline profile or an identity document that displays the name differently. Compare the application, passport and final flight booking before payment.

Renewal creates a new passport number. If the passport will be renewed before the trip, settle that first rather than creating an application linked to a document that will not travel. Check the number, nationality, birth date, issue date and expiry date individually. A family booking does not make these fields interchangeable.

Long connections can shift arrival into the following day. Compare the final Sri Lankan arrival date with the form after every schedule change. Keep enough connection time for airline document checks, especially when a family has several passports and approvals.

Family groups and children

Create one private checklist per traveller. Attach the correct passport image, save each reference under the correct name and compare every approval with the corresponding document. One adult's completed application does not verify a child's details.
